Camera Crane (2020)

About the build

A camera crane that I built in 2020, when the pandemic was at it’s peak. My goal was to test out Blender and Dragonframe, the software that is used by many animators. The crane is way to small to carry heavy weight, only some lightweight camera. I was not able to put it to use in a project, because with the camera I used it was not possible. I wrote my own program, to calculate a movement that could be read by dragonframe to set the moving motors. The crane has two axis that are not simply x,y,z (cartesian) but tilting and rotating (up, down and sideways). Therefore it is complex to program the crane. Linking and constraining different parts in Blender enables you to work out the movements and camera paths.

Animation Table (2025)

I took part in the creation of this animation table in 2025. It has some layers to place the characters, scenery and backdrop on. The layers can be moved up an down (manually) by losening screws at the corners. The camera can be moved up and down with a motor.
